通常「作家」という存在は何かしらの「インスピレーション」をよりどころに作品をつくっていくのだろう。絵であれば作家の哲学や時代背景やモチーフをもとに、ガラスなどの工芸であればその用途や作家性に、写真であればそれらに加えて被写体という存在を。その多くはつくり手の内や外に普遍的に見出される。
東京オペラシティアートギャラリーで開催中の、「ガラスの器と静物画　山野アンダーソン陽子と18人の画家」は、スウェーデン在住のガラス作家・山野アンダーソン陽子の発案による、山野がつくったガラスの器を18人の画家が静物画に描き一冊のアートブックにまとめた「Glass Tableware in Still Life（静物画のなかのガラス食器）」がもとになっている。

この物語はガラス作家の依頼により画家に求められた、これから立ち現れるガラス作品のイメージをメールや電話など、言葉で伝えるところから始まるという。ガラス作家は言葉で伝えられたものを想像し、造形イメージを膨らませていきながら具体的な形をマウスブローの手法によってつくる。そうして生まれたガラス作品はガラスの原初の姿を想像させる透明なクリアガラス。それを受け取った画家はキャンバスの上に生まれたばかりのガラス作品を絵に描く。それを写真家が画家のアトリエまで足を運び、その絵が生まれた場所で写真を撮る。そうしてかたちづくられていった複数の創作物をデザイナーが本にする。そんな複層性をもった創造物がこのプロジェクトそのものであり、本展である。

展示されるガラス、静物画、写真においては形においてしか完結しない物語がループ状に見出せるところが鑑賞者を惹きつける。そしてその円環状の物語を束ねるように一冊の本が編まれ、それを見ることができる事実は幸福な体験に違いない。

ガラス、絵画、写真、映像がアートギャラリーの空間にのびのびと展示されている。それはアンダーソンがつくる美しいガラスがもたらした今ここにしかない現象だ。

写真が好きなら、三部正博が画家のアトリエに足を運び、画家が普段絵を描くその場にそそぐ自然の光を頼りに8×10のフイルムの大判カメラで質感を大切に撮影した写真に感嘆することだろう。
アート作品の創作のプロセスは一般的にはあまり見ることができない。だが本展はいくつかの本にまとめられた物語と写真とともに、作家、画家、写真家、デザイナーの作品を通じて、間接的ではあるが見ることができるという意味でも稀有な体験になるだろう。

“Glass Tableware in Still Life Yoko Andersson Yamano and 18 painters” being held at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery is based on “Glass Tableware in Still Life” in which 18 painters draw glass vessels made by Yamano into still life paintings and combine them into an art book based on the idea of Yoko Andersson Yamano, a glass writer living in Sweden.

It is said that this story starts with conveying the image of the glass work that will appear in words, such as by e-mail or phone, which was requested by the painter at the request of the glass artist. Glass artists imagine what is conveyed in words, and create concrete shapes by the method of mouse blow while inflating the modeling image. The glass work born in this way is transparent clear glass that makes you imagine the original appearance of glass. The painter with it in hand draws a picture of a glass work that was just born on the canvas. The photographer goes to the painter’s atelier and takes a photograph at the place where the photograph was born.

If you like photography, Masahiro Sambe will go to the painter’s atelier and admire the photo taken with a large format camera of 8×10 film carefully, relying on the natural light that the painter usually draws pictures.
The process of creating art works can’t be seen much in general. However, this exhibition will be a rare experience in the sense that it can be seen indirectly but not through the works of writers, painters, photographers, and designers, along with stories and photos summarized in several books.
